Build-A-LabTM
Cellular and Microbiology Lab System The Build-A-LabTM cellular and microbiology lab system from The Motion Group, Inc. is intended for applications requiring direct precise manipulation of individual cells or other microscopic material. Typical applications include cell nucleus extraction and injection, single cell placement and manipulation, sample collecting and many others. Cell matrices can be “printed” onto growth/cultivation media in any desired pattern automatically without supervision or intervention from the user. The precision of the system allows cells to be placed side-by-side, one-by-one. Other tasks include replacement of damaged or missing cells in a matrix, automated mass cloning operations involving numerous cells, and automated periodic “feeding” of biological material. All motion components of the Build-A-LabTM system use poly-phase synchronous DC brushless motors to provide precise positional control. Resolution is typically 640,000 increments per inch (40 nm). Rigid construction and a “minimal moving parts” design philosophy enhance the precision and repeatability of the motion components, yielding single-step fluidic displacement of tens of picoliters and positional control to sub-fractional cell level. Handling of most types of bacteria and viruses is also possible. Intelligent system control is provided by The Motion Group’s MMC motion control/driver system. Features include adjustable torque (over-pressure protection), optical Super-Homing, slip detection and adjustable over-travel safety limits. Other control features include ramped acceleration/deceleration (no foaming or tissue disturbance) and general-purpose I/O functions for valves, indicators, switches and sensors. On-board non-volatile program memory allows the system to be used for stand-alone repetitive tasks. The controller also interfaces with any computer for interactive real-time tasks (when interfaced with popular control/data acquisition software including LabViewTM) or user-interactive tasks under keyboard control. Multiple systems can be networked together for coordinated control.
Additional components can be purchased separately to customize your system. Other components available include robotic peristaltic pumps, dovetail linear slide stages for longer travel, valves, additional drivers and driver network controllers.
